Edinger Dental

A dental emergency can happen when you least expect it. These unfortunate situations interfere with your life plans, your well-being, and can rob you of sleep. They can also threaten your oral health. Edinger Dental in Orange County provides emergency dentistry services to help restore your well-being and oral health.

If you have a dental emergency, or if you’re unsure whether your situation needs immediate attention, give us a call. A knowledgeable member of our staff can assess your symptoms and make the best recommendation for you. In some cases, we ask you to come on the same day, but if you do not have pain and your situation does not put your oral health at risk, we may schedule an appointment for you within a day or two.

Do you offer emergency dentistry in Orange County?

We don’t like to see our patients in pain or for their oral health to be at risk. For these reasons, we offer emergency dental appointments in our office.

We recommend calling at the first sign of infection or oral health change—tooth sensitivity, jaw swelling, for example—so we can better facilitate your appointment and get you in front of our dentist as soon as possible. However, we understand that this isn’t always possible, especially with a tissue injury or tooth knocked loose.

Is my situation a dental emergency?

We want you to call our dental office if you’re in doubt, but typically a dental emergency means pain, sensitivity, swelling, or oral injury.

If you have a blister on your gum and tooth pain, you may have a deep root infection. If you have a broken tooth, you may need a dental crown to save the tooth and prevent further fracture, an infection, or tooth loss.

When you call our office, a team member will make the determination based on your symptoms, including your pain level. We don’t want you to suffer through a toothache and will work to see you on the same day whenever possible.

What happens during an emergency dental appointment?

Dr. Evan Georgieff , your emergency dentist in Orange County, wants to relieve your pain as soon as possible and stabilize your situation. But the nature of your visit depends on your emergency type. For example, you may have a root infection that requires root canal therapy or a broken tooth that requires resetting.

No matter the treatment, we will numb the area before starting work, which will bring you the relief you’ve been looking for. The next steps are stabilization and restoring your oral health.

Is a root canal painful?

If you need root canal treatment during your dental visit, don’t worry. We provide gentle treatment in our dental office.

It is a myth and misconception that root canals are painful and stressful. Root canals relieve the pressure and pain that makes them necessary in the first place. When a tooth is infected, Dr. Evan Georgieff can remove the infected pulp and restore health to the tooth without needing to extract it.

If you are suffering from tooth pain and need a root canal in Orange County, we can relieve your discomfort at Edinger Dental.

Thanks to local anesthetics available at dental offices, root canals are nearly painless. Root canals often get a bad rap as the tooth needing treatment is generally very painful. The surgery itself, however, doesn't usually cause pain. Once the tooth is numb, most patients don't feel anything! Our patients may experience a little soreness for the next few days after the surgery, but this is normal after any operation.

If you feel severe pain or throbbing, please give our professional dental team a call at 714.668.1602. Dr. Evan Georgieff can prescribe painkillers to help relieve any discomfort and let you go on enjoying life as usual.

If you think you need a root canal, don't hesitate to call Edinger Dental or visit us online at Edinger Dental!

Will I need an extraction?

We typically work to save a damaged or broken tooth, but sometimes, your dentist recommends extraction if decay or trauma is significant. Sometimes, the patient chooses this option as well.

The procedure is very straightforward, and we always provide anesthesia to the extraction site before starting work. Afterward, we provide instructions for home care. You may notice a few days of mild swelling and lingering soreness, but this clears up quickly. You can take a store-bought pain reliever if needed.

If we try to salvage your tooth, we clear away infection and usually cap the tooth with a dental crown to prevent further damage. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped crown that fits over your tooth to the gumline. It creates a safety zone between your weak tooth and bite force. The crown is always designed to match your teeth.

If I need an extraction, can I get a tooth replacement?

If you lose your tooth or need extraction in Orange County, we offer a variety of options to help restore your smile after healing.

Our tooth replacement options include dentures, partial dentures, and dental implants.

  • Dentures take the place of full tooth loss.

  • Partial dentures stand in for partial or sporadic tooth loss.

  • Dental implants restore your lost tooth and its root.

  •

If you need extraction in our dental office, ask us about tooth replacement. Your dentist assesses your situation to see if the option you’ve chosen will work for your needs.

How can I lower my risks for dental emergencies?

The most common dental emergencies that we see are probably infections and deep decay. To lower your risk for these types of emergencies, we recommend two dental checkups each year and regular teeth cleanings. Checkups help your dentist spot emerging issues before they threaten your oral health. Teeth cleanings get rid of the tartar and plaque that cause decay, infections, and gum disease. You should also brush and floss at least twice daily.

If you grind and clench your teeth (bruxism), ask our dentist about a nightguard to help prevent tooth wear and sudden fractures. For our athletic patients, we recommend wearing the designated face gear or mouthguard during competitions or practice.

And always contact your Edinger Dental dentist if you notice tooth sensitivity, mouth sores that don’t heal, or other oral health changes between checkups.
